Existing floorboards, sanded and stained dark, provide a traditional base to "ground" the modern white kitchen to the property
The organic curved shape continues on the gable end of the kitchen cabinets
The wall between kitchen and pantry was removed creating one long flowing space
This area becomes a utility room; a play area with lots of cool storage
A wall of storage with push-open doors injects lots of colour into this dark area - "floating" on hidden lights above and below
The colours of the doors were inspired by the original Edwardian stained glass above the windows of the property
The whole design was conceived to focus on the view through the new french doors - a stunning vista of the city of Bath below!
The cabinets "project" the kitchen into the utilty space - integrating the two spaces with an amazing barrell-end of seamless Corian
A sleek induction hob contributes to the minimalist feel
The kitchen was designed not to "intrude" on the dining area - formed from just two sleek, sculptural shapes
The coloured storage wall is only glimpsed from the dining area where a sense of calm was sought. Once in this area the splash of colour creates an amazing surprise!
We constructed this area, with a curved wall to the rear, to house eye-level ovens and a huge larder fridge
This picture, taken just before completion, shows the clever siting of the switches for all the integrated appliances and control for bespoke extraction system above, allowing the walls to be kept free of clutter (a door now conceals it)
A lowered ceiling disguises the steel beams used to open up the spaces and focuses the design of the peninsula.
It also contains a bespoke extraction system and powerfull task lighting. (Picture taken just before competion)
Rebated handles avoid the projection of normal kitchen handles, enhancing the sleekness of the space while adding "punctuation" to the minimalist design.
The worktops are Corian - moulded and shaped to create a seamless, hygenic worksurface with the look of a beautiful sculpture!
An undermounted, stainless steel sink and monobloc tap continue the light unclutterd feel of the kitchen area
